Antseed

Three brand directions for the open market for AI inference. Each starts from the same idea: nobody sits in the middle.

antseed

00 Brief

Antseed is the open market for AI inference. 700+ models from independent providers, with no aggregator, no account and no markup. The product has a clear point of view. The brand doesn’t yet.

00.1 The name

Ants carry seeds. Seeds pay them for it.

A fair trade between strangers, with nobody in the middle. That’s Antseed, and it’s already in the name. Biologists call it myrmecochory.

00.2 Directions

One idea, three ways in. The system, the people, the myth.

Ant-traced script lettering
01Swarm

No centre, just the swarm. Many small marks form one identity.

02Market

An open market, drawn by hand. Ink-line characters and wit.

03Folklore

The oldest fair trade on earth, told as a painted folk tale.

Swarm

Direction

No centre, just the swarm.

Antseed has no middleman. Independent providers find each other and serve requests directly, like a colony with no one giving orders.

The identity works the same way. Thousands of small marks (ants, dots, trails) gather into type and image, then scatter. It grows out of the dot Antseed already uses.

  • TypeScript, drawn only by the swarm. Grotesk and mono for the rest.
  • ColourChartreuse, black, paper. Pink for data.
  • ImageDocumentary photography with trails and pixel masks.
  • MotionAssemble, disperse, repeat.
  • RootsVera Molnár, Sol LeWitt, Craig Reynolds’ Boids.

Swarm

The swarm writes the brand.

Live sketchThe swarm writes the words. Pick one, or move through it to scatter the ants.

A Ants as type
Letterforms traced by bodies. The script only exists because the swarm draws it.
01.01Ants forming the strokes.
01.02Chartreuse and black. Loud and ownable.
01.03Dotted script over photography.
01.04Quieter: a trail across a card.
B The trail
Lines left by many small movements. The trail leads the eye through a layout.
01.05A ring of ants, close to a symbol.
01.06A trail linking content on a page.
01.07A path of images as navigation.
01.08One dotted line can draw anything.
C Dots over image
The dot as texture and as data. Pixel masks take over a subject; stitching adds craft.
01.09Cross-stitch type. Dots as craft.
01.10Swarm lines drawn over photography.
01.11A pixel mask taking over a subject.
01.12The same mask on illustration.

Market

Direction

An open market, drawn by hand.

Antseed is a market. Anyone can sell inference, anyone can buy it, and nobody takes a cut. Markets are human places: stalls, couriers, deals.

So we draw it as one. Ink-line characters, flat colour and dry wit make an open network feel friendly, not technical. It's the opposite of AI's glowing orbs.

  • TypeSoft serif. Mono for prices and labels.
  • ColourBlack line on butter, lilac, sky and green.
  • ImageOne-weight ink characters, always at work.
  • MotionLines draw on. Busy, never frantic.
  • RootsRichard Scarry, Saul Steinberg, Sempé, Bruegel.

A The line
One weight, black ink, round ends. Drawn quickly and with wit.
02.01A flash sheet: a cast, not one mascot.
02.02New Yorker spots: a joke in a few lines.
02.03Halftone shade links back to the dot.
B Line on colour
Black line over flat fields of colour. Simple enough to hold a billboard.
02.04Graza. One drawing carries the board.
02.05Mailchimp. One style, many colour fields.
02.06A simple metaphor, drawn well.
C Characters at work
People and ants always doing something: trading, carrying, building. That's the market.
02.07The style scales down to email and product.
02.08Characters in UI. Empty states with personality.
02.09The crowd, running together.
03

Folklore

Direction

The oldest fair trade on earth.

Ants and seeds have traded for millions of years. The seed pays, the ant carries, both thrive. It's the deal Antseed offers: fair exchange, no middleman.

We paint it as a folk tale, an illustrated world where providers are villages and requests are paths. Warm and storied in a category that's cold and generic.

  • TypeCarved serif with a clean grotesk.
  • ColourRed ochre, umber, juniper, citrine, cobalt.
  • ImagePainted worlds in arched frames. Dot-and-line pattern.
  • MotionSlow. Day turns to night.
  • RootsMaria Sibylla Merian, Gond art, Pamela Colman Smith, Bhimbetka.

One dense illustrated landscape that holds the whole story. Every corner has a small scene.
03.01KEEN by Mother Design. A world inside the wordmark.
03.02The same world carried into product.
03.03Arched frames hold the picture.
B Earth colours
Red ochre and umber from cave painting, lifted with citrine and cobalt.
03.04The palette, straight from rock art.
03.05Bold colour fields, plain-spoken copy.
03.06Classical forms on a warm gradient.
